Do herbivores change their behaviour in the absence of lions in arid areas of South Africa?

These data go with the manuscript with the same title. The data were collected as part of the SnapShot Safari - South Africa project in various dry regions of South Africa. The data were used to test whether spatial and temporal activity patterns of springboks (<em>Antidorcas marsupialis</em>) and gemsboks (<em>Oryx gazella</em>) differed in the absence and presence of lions, we analysed camera trap data from four arid sites where lions were present and four arid sites where lions were absent in the arid regions of South Africa, including the Karoo and Kalari regions. We also investigated if there was spatial and temporal avoidance of the areas frequently used by lions.
