"Bruder Neumann mit einem erlegten Löwen" ("Brother Neumann with a shot lion"). The shot lion on the ground. Brother Neumann and two African men standing behind the animal. All men are holding rifles. The rear of Neumann's rifle is positioned on the lion's neck.; Neumann, Gustav Karl, blacksmith. Born February 13th, 1882 in Maidani, Gov. Warsaw, Russian Poland, died August 11th, 1955 in Bethel, Germany. 1904-1909 mission service in Unyamwezi as craftsman. On August 6th 1908 he married Anna Emilie, née Richter. The couple returned to Germany in 1909 due to Anna's bad state health. Neumann joined the Bethel Mission in 1913 and started work in Ruanda. In 1914 he married Helene Richter in Bakoba (Buhaya). From 1914-15 he worked in Rukiro, East Africa. In 1915/16 he joined the colonial forces and was imprisoned. From 1928-40 he was stadioned in Buhaya, Kamachumu (Ndolage). In 1940 he was imprisoned again and then repatriated.
