In vivo and in vitro effect of an avocado peel polyphenolic extract (AvPPE) rich in cecal microbiota

We evaluated the effect of a proanthocyanidin-rich avocado peel polyphenol extract (AvPPE) on the formation of deleterious bacterial metabolites by human fecal microbiota cultured for 24h in a bioreactor in the presence of high protein (HP) levels, and the detrimental effect of the resulting culture supernatants on colonic HT-29glc-/+ and Caco-2 cells. Furthermore, we evaluated the effect of an avocado peel polyphenolic extract (AvPPE) rich in proanthocyanidins on the production of cecal metabolites and composition of cecal microbiota of rats feed with a HPD.
