Stereoscopic photography viewer

Such viewers were a type of optical device which allowed viewing stereoscopic photography, which produces the impression of three-dimensionality. It was also popular due to its thematic diversity: from architectural motifs and reproductions of works of art, through landscapes and tourist attractions, to frequently arranged genre scenes or social photographs with a humorous and erotic twist. Karol Bayer – a photographer from Warsaw – was one of the first to engage in stereoscopy in Poland. His first contact with it took place at the London World Show in 1851, and fascinated him with its possibilities. His first stereoscopic views of Warsaw are from 1856.
