Images and Site Records from Archaeological Works at the A19/A184 Testos Junction, South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, February-March 2019

This collection comprises images and site records from a trial trench evaluation and earthworks survey at the A19/A184 Testos Junction, South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear. This work was undertaken by Network Archaeology in February and March 2019. Trial trenches were specifically located to evaluate areas of the proposed development and to target known and potential archaeological features recognised by previous geophysical surveys. Two areas were established for preservation in situ: one ridge and furrow area, which was subjected to an earthworks survey, and one possible circular feature located in Trench 2. The results from the environmental sampling of the probable ring-ditch in Trench 2 suggest it is likely to be of medieval or post-medieval date and may include midden waste. This may suggest that the feature is related to land use in the same time period as the ridge and furrow was in use.
