Particle size distribution and imagery for mixed sand-gravel coastal sediments

Surface beach sediment was sampled from the mixed sediment system of Bawdsey Beach and the Deben inlet/ebb-tidal delta in April 2023. Methdology for fieldwork and particle size analysis are reported in Gong (2026) and Gong and Burningham (2026). A selection of these samples were photographed to support the development of an automated digital grain size analysis tool - CobbleSnap - developed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research & Development Center, as a coarser grain size extension to their existing SandSnap tool. This dataset comprises the measured particle size distribution of the sediments sampled, and photographs of each sample. Samples were placed and distributed in a tray to achieve a single grain layer. A golf ball was placed in the corner to provide scale. Photos were taken using an iPhone 14 Pro and both the 1x and 2x zoom level (24 mm and 48 mm film-equivalent focal length).
