Downy mildew of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is caused by the oomycete Plasmopara halstedii (Farl.) Berl et de Toni. Despite of the breeding efforts of the international community, it remains a major threat for sunflower cultivation. Yet very few genomic, genetic and molecular resources of this pathogen are available for research. Using 454 sequencing method, we generated ESTs expressed in the frame of the interaction of H. annuus and P. halstedii.
