We used stable isotope probing (SIP), pyrosequencing and enrichment cultures to analyze the identity and diversity of active aerobic methanotrophs in an arctic thermokarst lake (Lake Qalluuraq) on the north slope of Alaska that is emitting CH4 at a substantial seep, and a sub-arctic thermokarst lake (Lake Killarney) in Alaska's interior.
