Independent news media organizations worldwide reported an increase in audience reach during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report from September 2020. A total of 39 percent of organizations surveyed stated a significant increase in reach during the COVID-19 crisis, reporting significant audience growth (30 percent or more). However, 17 percent reported small or notable declines.
