Jute is the second largest source of natural fiber next to cotton but it has limited industrial use due to high lignin content and short fiber cell length (1.9-3.2 mm). Very little is known about the molecular mechanism behind fiber cell formation as well as elongation in jute. Once we accurately identify stage specific responsible genes of fiber formation on jute we can start the gene modification approach to increase fiber cell length. In these circumstances, we started an experiment aiming to locate snap point ( transition point between cell elongation & starting of secondary cell wall deposition ) in jute plant followed by gene expression analysis of vicinity region of snap point to identify the stage specific key genes in fiber development pathway.
