Obesityinallagegroups,includingchildrenandadolescents,isapublichealthchallengeacrossallsettings.Obesityisnowclassifiedasacomplexmultifactorialchronicdiseaseandnotjustariskfactorforothernoncommunicablediseasesandcomorbidities.Recognizingthesignificanceofprimaryhealthcareforaneffectiveandefficientresponsetotheobesityepidemic,theWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)hasdevelopedguidanceonhowtobuildcapacityinthehealthsystemtodeliverhealthservicesforpreventionandmanagementofobesityacrossthelifecourse.Thispolicybriefdiscussesthechallengesandopportunitiesforpreventingobesityinchildrenandadolescents,andprovidinghealthservicestotreatandmanagethosealreadylivingwithobesity.Itoutlinespossibleinterventionsthroughtheprimaryhealthcareapproach.
