Lactobacillus plantarum AY01 induces apoptosis, blocks the cycle in colorectal cancer cells and inhibits cancer progression in a mouse colorectal cancer model

In this study, L. plantarum AY01 and L. fermentum JSL8-2 were screened against human colorectal cancer cells by using the culture supernatant of LAB to have good inhibitory effect on colorectal cancer cell (HT-29, HCT-116, Caco-2 and SW-620) proliferation. Flow cytometry showed that L. plantarum AY01 and L. fermentum JSL8-2 could inhibit the proliferation of HT-29 cells by inducing apoptosis and blocking the cell cycle. However, AY01 had a more significant inhibitory effect than JSL8-2. The results of transcriptome showed that gene expression in three pathways of HT-29 cells was significantly different after AY01 treatment, and AY01 reduced the susceptibility of mice to AOM-induced colorectal cancer.
