Biodegradation of gas and volatile hydrocarbons in seawater

The dataset describe chemical analyses of the gases methane, ethane and propane, and analyses of volatile organic compounds in laboratory experiments with water-accommodated fractions (WAFs) or seawater with or without injection of a mixture of the gases methane, ethane and propane. The laboratory experiments were performed with natural non-amended seawater from a Norwegian fjord, and generation of the WAFs by low-energy (LE-WAF) in the seawater. LE-WAFs were generated With both high dosage of oil to seawater (1:100)(HC-LE-WAFs) and low dosage of oil to the seawater (1:10,000)(LC-LE-WAF). Biodegradation experiments with HC-LE-WAFs were performed at 5°C for 30 days, and with LC-LE-WAFs at 5°C for 64 days. Gas mixtures (methane, ethane and propane) were injected in seawater without LE-WAF, or in LE-WAFs for comparison. Experiments were also performed with LE-WAFs with or without injection of gas mixtures.
