This entry is for the Quaternary igneous rocks from Sverrefjell, NW Spitsbergen. It includes volcanic lava and mantle xenolith rock samples. It is about 100 kg in total weight.
These samples are to understand the origin and evolution of the continental mantle beneath Spitsbergen (formerly a part of northern Laurentia) and globally. The rock samples will provide whole rock and mineral geochemical data as well as isotope data. This work will help to establish radiogenic isotope signatures of the peridotite mantle beneath Spitsbergen.
