The study was conducted on five pig farms in Chongming District, Shanghai, China. Faeces from fattening pigs and soil from the farms were sampled and sequenced. To further investigate the transfer of antibiotic resistance genes between humans, pigs and soil, faecal samples from staff at two of the pig farms were sequenced for further study.
