Mapping of Scholarly Editing Terms

In recent years, several lexicons and ontologies have been created that describe the practices, methodologies and results of (digital) scholarly editing. Among the main resources currently available online are: Lexicon of Scholarly Editing (LSE), https://lexiconse.uantwerpen.be/; Parvum Lexicon Stemmatologicum (PLS), https://doi.org/10.5167/uzh-121539; Critical Apparatus Ontology (CAO), https://w3id.org/cao; the Genetic Networks Ontology (GeNO), https://w3id.org/geno; Scholarly Editing (SE), https://e-editiones.ch/ontology/scholarly-editing. In addition to these resources, there are: the OWL Critical Edition Ontology (CEO), https://chiaramartignano.github.io/critical-edition-ontology/, which I created as part of my PhD research, with the aim of representing the components of a reconstructive critical edition based on multiple witnesses; the SKOS Edition Types Vocabulary (ETV), https://w3id.org/dh-atlas-vocabularies/etv/, which I created as part of the PRIN ATLAS project (https://dh-atlas.github.io/) to classify the different types of digital critical editions catalogued in the knowledge graph created for the project. Each of these resources was created with specific objectives, which differ from one another. However, it is interesting to analyse which concepts recur across the different resources and, above all, how the same concepts are named and defined differently depending on the application and theoretical context of reference. To facilitate this analysis, I have created a mapping that compares the terms and concepts identified in the various models listed, together with the elements and attributes of the TEI guidelines, which are most often used for philological purposes. To produce the mapping, I started with a purely lexical alignment between the different terms, which you can find both in the overall file in XSLX format and in a separate CSV file called “Mapping of Scholarly Editing Terms - Lexical Alignment”. I then grouped together terms that were semantically equivalent or almost equivalent, without including more specific concepts in broader ones. For example, I kept the concepts of variant and indifferent variant separate. You can see the result of this work in the overall file in XSLX format and in a separate CSV file called “Mapping of Scholarly Editing Terms - Conceptual Alignment”. Finally, I created the actual mapping, which only shows terms shared by at least two resources with all the respective links. The mapping is available in the overall file in XSLX format and in a separate CSV file called “Mapping of Scholarly Editing Terms - Mapping”. To verify my work, you will find all the terms of each resource, with links and definitions, in files named with the abbreviations of the resources. For the Lexicon of Scholarly Editing and the Parvum Lexicon Stemmatologicum, I chose not to include the definitions, as they are too long. The table below shows details of the resources used.
