United States Census Bureau's Data Portal

Released in 2019, data.census.gov is the current platform to access data and digital content from the U.S. Census Bureau. This tool replaces the old American FactFinder application, which will be decommissioned as of March 31, 2020. The Census Bureau describes their vision for data dissemination through data.census.gov as striving "to improve the customer experience by making data available from one centralized place so that data users spend less time searching for data content and more time using it." The Bureau provides many resources to learn more about the tool and the datasets it makes available through their Resources page at https://www.census.gov/data/adrm/what-is-data-census-gov.html. The data.census.gov platform is built on an application programming interface (API) that provides users with direct access to the Bureau's data -- so as data users enter their searches, these queries will make direct calls to the data, metadata, and geospatial services. This marks a transition away from a table-based system that powered the old American FacFinder tool, towards a single-cell based system, creating new opportunities for data visualizations, maps, and other data displays that data users need. What data is available? As of March 2020, available data include: American Community Survey (ACS) 1-Year detailed tables, data profiles, comparison profiles, and subject tables since 2010 ACS Selected Population Profiles since 2016 ACS 5-Year detailed tables, data profiles, and subject tables since 2010 ACS 5-Year comparison profiles since 2015 ACS supplemental estimates since 2014 Decennial summary files for 2010 2012 &2017 Economic Census 2017 Census of Governments County and Zip Code Business Patterns for 2012 - 2017 Survey of Business Owners, Company Summary, and Characteristics of Business Owners for 2012
