Polyphosphate in bacteria Alteromonas sp., Vibrio sp., and Photobacterium ganghwense under phosphorus and organic carbon limitations

Three marine heterotrophic bacteria species were cultured under phosphorus (P) and organic carbon limitations and monitored for their dynamics of growth (optical density and viable cell counts), cellular polyphosphate (polyP), total biomass P (TPP), activities of alkaline phosphatase, and the relative expression levels of polyP metabolic genes including ppk1, ppk2, and ppx. The medium concentrations of phosphate, glucose, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were also measured.
