This dataset presents a global gridded estimate of methane emissions from wild ruminants for years 2000-2024. The dataset relies on global mammal biomass and population estimation from Greenspoon et al. (2023) and Greenspoon et al. (2025), IUCN red list data on species ranges and suitable habitats (IUCN, 2025), and Pérez-Barbería (2017) model for estimating methane emissions from wild ruminants. The files included in the dataset are:- GlobalDist_res100km_mc.R: R script to derive global gridded estimate of methane emissions from wild ruminants based on the publicly available data mentioned above. - global_methane_map_2024_res_12500_Tg.tif: Global gridded estimate of methane emissions from wild ruminants at 12.5km resolution for year 2024 in Tg. - global_methane_map_2024_res_100000_Tg_InclUnc.tif : Global gridded estimate of methane emissions from wild ruminants at 100km resolution including gridded uncertainty (2.5 and 97.5 percentiles) for year 2024 in Tg. - global_methane_MC_nIter_10000.csv: Yearly global methane emissions in Tg, including 2.5 and 97.2 percentiles. - species_methane_MC_nIter_10000_2024.csv: Per species total methane emissions for year 2024, including 2.5 and 97.2 percentiles.
