Operational status of sanitation infrastructure during the 2024 disaster in southern Brazil

This dataset compiles structured information obtained through Freedom of Information (LAI – Lei de Acesso à Informação) requests regarding the operational status of sanitation infrastructure in cities of southern Brazil. Sanitation assets: Water Treatment Plants (ETA), Wastewater Treatment Plants (ETE), and Stormwater Pumping Stations (EBAP). Municipailties: Porto Alegre Files The raw responses received from the municipal government are provided in their original form in the file respostas.txt, ensuring transparency, auditability, and full reproducibility. Based on these responses, the file dados.csv (semicolon-separated) was produced, containing the cleaned, standardized, and structured data ready for analysis. Fields The dataset includes information on operational disruptions during the May 2024 flood event, including dates of shutdown, partial resumption, and full restoration of service when reported. The structured variables include: id: unique numeric identifier for each infrastructure unit. tipo: category of the unit (ETA, ETE, or EBAP). nome: standardized name of the facility, without prefixes and preserving internal identifiers and numbering (e.g., “CB 01 Rodoviária”). afetada: binary indicator of impact (1 = affected; 0 = not affected; empty = not reported). data_inoperante: date on which the unit became inoperative. data_operacao_parcial: date of partial restoration (when available). data_operacao_plena: date of full operational restoration (when available). observacao: additional qualitative notes extracted from the official responses. This dataset can support analyses of infrastructure resilience, assessment of impacts from extreme events, risk management studies, and transparency or accountability initiatives related to public sanitation services.
