Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are important foodborne enteric pathogens that cause gastrointestinal illnesses and potentially fatal sequelae including haemolytic-ureamic syndrome (HUS). Ruminants including cattle are important STEC reservoirs. In addition to shigatoxins, some STEC strains also produce the cytotoxin subtilase (SubAB) . STEC isolate 48 originating from a roe deer although positive in the primary subAB screening yielded negative results upon subtyping the subAB-variants. Our goal in the present study was to determine the draft genome of STEC isolate 48 and define the genetic environment of the subAB gene locus in this strain.
