Synthesis, Characterization, and Application of Colloidal Sheets

We demonstrate novel evaporation driven assembly of colloidal particles to make colloidal analogues of 2D materials. We show size, crystalline order, flexibility can be systematically controlled. We study monolayer to multilayer transition as function of experimental parameters - oil-layer thickness and particle concentration. We present preliminary results on failures in 2D materials to study the effect of order and presence of defects. This experimental system is useful to study behaviour 2D material under different conditions as these can be easily visualised using simple microscope and their interactions can be tuned.
