Plantaricin BM-1 Decreases Viability of SW480 Human Colorectal Cancer Cells by Inducing Caspase-Dependent Apoptosis

Cell proliferation assay, scanning electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry were used to examine the effects of plantaricin BM-1 treatment on viability and apoptosis of colorectal cancer cell SW480 cells. Transcriptomic analysis showed that 69 genes were differentially expressed after plantaricin BM-1 treatment, of which 65 were downregulated and 4 were upregulated. Enrichment analysis of those genes showed that expression levels of genes involved in the TNF signaling pathways, NF-kB signaling pathways, MAPK signaling pathways, microRNAs in cancer and transcriptional misregulation in cancer, were affected in SW480 cells following the treatment with plantaricin BM-1.
