Scoping study of doctoral research on the International Baccalaureate 2014 to 2023

This dataset contains 211 doctoral dissertations focused on the International Baccalaureate (IB), a Geneva-based non-profit organization that designs international education programmes and authorizes schools to implement them. The dataset was compiled for the project Mapping Doctoral Research on the International Baccalaureate (2014–2023): Trends and Implications for International Education, which received ethical approval from the IOE Ethics Committee (REC1925; approved 19 February 2024).<br><br>Dissertations were identified through two methods. First, 133 dissertations from 2014–2023 were located using the annual bibliographies produced by the IB (Aklog, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024; Dabrowski, 2016, 2017, 2018; Engel et al., 2015; Popușoi &amp; Holman, 2019, 2020). Second, searches of the ProQuest Dissertations &amp; Theses database and Open Access Theses and Dissertations (OATD) were conducted for doctoral works with “International Baccalaureate” in the title. These combined methods produced the final dataset of 211 dissertations, including both PhD and EdD degrees.<br><br>The dataset includes the following variables: year of publication; source from which the dissertation was identified; dissertation title; awarding university; degree type; country of the awarding institution; country or countries of research focus; IB programme level(s) studied (PYP, MYP, DP, CP); school sector (state or private); research methodology (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods); primary keyword; and secondary keyword.<br><br>References<br><br>Aklog, F.
