Native trees within plantations and surrounding forest cover are essential for bird conservation in cashew-dominated landscapes within a biodiversity hotspot

We assessed the influence of local and landscape factors on bird diversity and persistence in a cashew-dominated landscape of the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot.To this end, we compared composition across cashew monocultures, cashew agroforests, and forests, and assessed the influence of local (proportion of native trees, canopy cover), and landscape (forest and cashew covers in 800 m buffer) factors on diversity (taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic), trait-specific, and species-specific responses of birds within the agricultural matrix. The dataset collected and R codes used for this study are published here. Bird species traits were sourced from Tobias et al. (2022), Wilman et al. (2014), and Ali and Ripley (1999). Phylogenetic trees were sourced from birdtree.org (Jetz et al. 2012).
