A Norwegian commercial pig herd was used for a feeding trial run at a Norwegian pig farm. The experiment was conducted on weaned piglets (at ~4 weeks of age ) in three periods with eight weeks between each.The dietary treatments consisted of were fed with either a commercial piglet diet as control or an experimental diet where mainly soybean meal was replaced by Cyberlindnera jadinii cells (LYCC 7549; Lallemand Yeast Culture Collection) to provide 45% of the crude protein.The feeding trial in all three periods lasted for four weeksuntil the weight of piglets reached is about~ 25 kg final weight. After 4 weeks from weaning in the first period and after 2 weeks in the second and third periods, one pig from each pen was transported and euthanized at the Pathology Unit at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). Tissue samples from distal ileum and apex of the spiral colon were collected for gene expression analyses.
