The project aims at genomic characterization of a novel marine bacteriophage PhPV1.2 which specifically lyses Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain PV1.2 (GenBank accession No. MZ489224). The host bacterium and the lytic phage were isolated from seawater samples in a tidal pond in Puthuvype, Kochi, South India. Based on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies, genomic features, and phylogenetic analysis, PhPV1.2 has been identified as a novel phage belonging to the family Autographiviridae.
