VPRS 3225 Log Allocation Files, Microfiche

VPRS 3225 Log Allocation Files is the microfiche copy of Log Allocation Files within General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System (VPRS 11563) created by the Department of State Forests (Forests Commission) (VA 534). In the late 1970s the Department undertook a project to make microfiche and microfilm copies of vital records. VPRS 3225 Log Allocation Files is a product of that project. It is believed that after the microfilming project that some of the original files were destroyed and for those that remained it is not known whether they were returned fully to their original order. It is believed that the files filmed in VPRS 3225 Log Allocation Files are complete and in their original order. The non current files that were not filmed are located in VPRS 14948 Log Allocation Files.The log allocation files record the amount of timber allocated to each saw mill in the state for cutting, a description of the area allocated to log licensees, species and volumes of timber to be cut and royalty rates. The files contain all correspondence, applications and licences relating to that particular sawmill company.The log allocation files were part of the Departments general correspondence that was arranged by an annual single number system, General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number System (VPRS 11563). The original Log Allocation Files can be found in this series. Correspondence was continually top numbered as correspondence on the same subject was received in later years.

20世纪70年代末，该部门启动了一项重要档案（vital records）缩微平片与缩微胶片（microfilm）复制项目，VPRS 3225 原木分配档案正是该项目的成果之一。据推测，缩微拍摄项目完成后，部分原始档案已遭销毁，留存的原始档案亦无法确认是否完全恢复了原有编排顺序。但可以确定，VPRS 3225 原木分配档案中收录的拍摄档案完整无缺且保留了原始编排顺序。
未进行缩微拍摄的非现行档案现保存于VPRS 14948 原木分配档案中。
原木分配档案记录了本州各锯木厂获批的采伐木材总量、分配给原木许可证持有者的采伐区域详情、拟采伐木材的树种与材积，以及特许权费率（royalty rates）。档案包含与对应锯木厂相关的全部通信文件、申请材料与许可证。
原木分配档案隶属于该部门的通用通信档案体系，该体系采用年度单编号系统编排，即通用通信档案·年度单编号系统（VPRS 11563），原始原木分配档案即收录于该档案系列中。由于后续年份仍会收到同一主题的函件，相关通信文件会持续续编编号。
