Sporomusa ovata DSM 2662 Genome sequencing and assembly

The class Negativicutes comprises only a few genera of Gram-negative sporeformers. Sporomusa ovata was one of the first described species with this feature. This organism is able to ferment various N-methyl compounds such as betaine, N,N-dimethylglycine, and sarcosine, but also primary alcohols, hydroxy fatty acids, and 2,3-butanediol. The main product is acetate, which is also produced from molecular hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
