Single pollen genotyping of tetraploid blueberry

Highbush blueberry is a group of tetraploid blueberry cultivars developed through multiple interspecific crosses. Despite its commercial importance, less is known about chromosome pairing and allele segregation patterns under tetraploid nature. It is known that most species in the Ericaceae family, including blueberry, produce tetrad pollen, in which tetrad of microspore cells does not separate during the pollen development. This study aims to develop the system to directly observe the recombination in tetraploid blueberry by single cell genotyping of four germinated pollen tube cells from single tetrad pollen.
