New SDSS Magnetic CVs with Unusual Accretion Rates

We will obtain fluxes and spectra for 5 new magnetic cataclysmic variables(Polars) identified from the first year of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Theseobjects are unusual in that they appear to represent the low end of masstransfer in magnetics and have low Xray/optical fluxes compared to Xrayselected Polars. We will use the high sensitivity and large energy coverage ofXMM to delineate the shock versus blob heating in this low accretion situationas compared to the high accretion states that are usual in Xray selectedmagnetics.
