Ru(II)-catalyzed cross-metathesis of 1,1′-diallylnickelocene (1) with methyl vinyl ketone or methyl acrylate afforded in high yields 1,1′-bis(4-oxo-2-pentenyl)nickelocene (3) or 1,1′-bis(4-methoxy-4-oxo-2-butenyl)nickelocene (4), respectively. Compound 3 crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, space group P21/c, in a staggered conformation with the α,β-unsaturated moiety perpendicular to the cyclopentadienyl plane.
