IMOS SOOP-XBT Upper Ocean Thermal Data collected on the line IX21-IX06 (Cape of Good Hope - Mauritius - Malacca Strait)

This dataset contains temperature data obtained from XBTs (expendable bathythermographs) deployed by vessels during different cruises between the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), Mauritius and the Malacca Strait.

Expendable Bathythermographs (XBTs) have been used for many years by oceanographers to measure the temperature of the upper ocean. These instruments are simple devices which are designed to be deployed from moving vessels, enabling broad scale coverage of the world's oceans.

本数据集包含由船舶在好望角（南非）、毛里求斯与马六甲海峡之间的不同科考航次中投放的抛弃式温深计（expendable bathythermographs，XBT）所获取的温度数据。
多年来，海洋学家一直使用抛弃式温深计来测量上层海洋的温度。此类仪器结构简易，专为移动船舶投放设计，可实现全球海洋的大范围观测覆盖。
