Genome assembly and annotation of the economically important turfgrass Poa pratensis.. Poa sp.

Poa is an ecologically diverse genus that includes the most economically important and widely utilized turfgrasses. Apomixis, polyploidy, and clonal reproduction are common throughout the genus constraining turfgrass breeding to rely on ecotype selection. Additionally, breeders lack sufficient molecular markers to distinguish unique cultivars. We have assembled and annotated a P. pratensis reference genome and study 8 additional individuals within the genus
