Eleven pollen samples representing two features were examined from Fort Bridger, Wyoming. At the time of excavation the function of these features remained undetermined and pollen andstarch analysis was \H*3ertaken to shed licfit an possible function of both features. These two deep pits were located within the Mormon Compound. Feature 17 was a possible borrow pit located along the northwest end of Feature 3, which was examined for pollen previously. Use of this pit dates between 1843 and 1857 and predates use of Feature 3. Feature 16 is located near the northwest corner of the Mormon cxatpound residential area. It underlies a turned area associated with the end of the Mormon occupation in the fall of 1857. This feature also dates to 1843 to 1857. Both pits may relate to either the Bridger occupation or the Mormon occupation. Artifacts recovered from this feature suggest proximity to a blacksmith shop.
