Palliative Distribution for Tomato Farmers

The Nigerian Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) project aims to protect the livelihoods and food security of poor and vulnerable farmers. The advent of COVID – 19 pandemic changed a whole lot of dynamics in the world and calls for a drastic action to address food need for the entire populace especially, with the world on the brink of food crisis. Oyo State Government in the light of the above, constituted the Oyo State Taskforce on Food Security Emergency (a subset of the Oyo State COVID19 Taskforce) and saddled them to come up with strategies to managing the impending food security issue in the state as a result of the effects of the COVID – 19 pandemics. One of the approaches utilized was addressing both medium and long term responses to food security emergency through food production, processing to consumption in targeted food crops which includes cassava, yam, maize, cowpea and soybean with special emphasis on tomato cultivation with the view to pitch the state on the path of self-sufficiency in its production and, reduce the influx of tomato and its value added products from other states into Oyo state.
