VPRS 830 Outward Letter Book of Sir Redmond Barry

Sir Redmond Barry was a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, instrumental in the establishment of the State Library and Chancellor of the University of Melbourne among other notable civic responsibilities.This series consists of copies of Sir Redmond Barrys outwards correspondence, primarily to do with his function as a judge of the Supreme Court. Correspondence includes reports on cases, responses to prisoners petitions, arrangements for Court sittings throughout Victoria and for the accommodation of the Court and the appointment of Justices and Commissioners of the Supreme Court. Correspondence addressed to such officials as the Attorney-General and the Colonial Secretary deals with Supreme Court Rules and legislation proposed or before Parliament. Other correspondence in these letter books relate to his educational interests in such institutions as the University of Melbourne and the Ballarat School of Mines and to his knighthood.
