This study aims to assess the potential of a community of marine bacteria to biodegrade petroleum-based (i.e. low density polyethylene, LDPE) and bio-based (i.e. polyethylene terephthalate, PET) microplastics coming from commercially available plastic bags. The results showed that the selected community had some potential to biodegrade, or at least biodeteriorate, both types of plastics. Bio-based PET was no more prone to biodegradation than conventional LDPE
