Hydrogenophaga intermedia strain S1 is a well-studied 4-aminobenzenesulfonate degrader. Isolated more than a decade ago, this strain has been subject to various genetic, biochemical and physiological study relevant to its biodegradation ability. It is anticipated that the genome sequence of Hydrogenophaga intermedia strain S1 will further the understanding of its biodegradation ability.
