Impacts of Cryptosporidium parvum Incidence

This dataset originates from a longitudinal cohort study involving 140 dairy calves, individually monitored from birth to 60 days of age. The primary objective was to assess the presence of Cryptosporidium parvum and evaluate the impact of early-life infection on calf health and growth performance. The dataset includes birth-related variables (e.g., Birth Weight – BW, Parity of Dam, DS&FTPI), clinical recordscollected at four health assessments (e.g., Crypto_1st_HA, Diarrhea_1st_HA, Severity and Duration of Diarrhea, AGE at diagnosis), and growth indicators (e.g., Weight at 4 weeks, Final Weight, ADG_8), among other records. A set of key performance indicators (KPIs) were developed to explore the association between C. parvum infection and calf development, including binary classifications of average daily gain, infection intensity based on oocyst count, and pre-weaning health outcomes. Key outcome variables include binary and continuous indicators for average daily gain (ADG), severity and duration of diarrhea, and C. parvum shedding levels expressed in oocysts per gram. These variables were carefully constructed to allow further epidemiological analyses on calf health, morbidity patterns, and early growth dynamics under field conditions.
