In this study, we have assessed the effects of aqueous extracts of raw PET and ripe PET on the body weight and plasma profiles of rats fed with a high fat and sugar diet and have investigated the composition and biodiversity of their cecal bacterial communities by using 16S rRNA high throughput sequencing. We believe this information will improve our understanding of interactions between different types of PET and the gut microbiota and help clarify the potential health effects of each.
