Study of phylogenetic relationships in Baikal amphipods. Pallasea cancellus

Amphipods (Crustacea) of Lake Baikal are a very numerous and diverse group of invertebrates generally believed to have originated from adaptive radiation. Previous studies have shown that the mitochondrial genomes of Baikal amphipods have profound variability in lengths, gene content, and order. In particular, additional copies of tRNA genes are found in some species. The evolutionary history and phylogenetic relationships in Baikalian amphipods remain poorly understood. This project is aimed to infer the phylogeny and evolutionary history of Baikal amphipod species using their mitochondrial genomes sequence data.
