Dall'oblìo alla memoria. I ritratti di Giulio Cesare Vanini

The historical-artistic analysis of the currently known testimonies of Giulio Cesare Vanini's "portraits" has made it possible to establish the impossibility of having his vera effigies. Indeed, Vaninian portraiture does not pass on the features of the philosopher; indeed, there is a change over time of its somatic characteristics, for which an image has been transmitted by reconstructing it with the use of the ingredients of a tested iconographic repertoire. The idealization of his figure is manifested above all in the nineteenth century and stands in unitary Italy, with a representation of the idea of man rather than his somatic features, redeeming him from oblivion for the benefit of memory.
