Declaring the clock in the old courthouse tower "Is to Los Angeles what the Liberty Bell is to Philadelphia," the Los Angeles Historical Society yesterday petitioned the Supervisors not to sell the timepiece, which has been in use for 53 years. The society suggested the clock be preserved. It must be removed when workmen tear away the tower, which has been declared unsafe.
