Pediococcusparvulus 2.6 is the first strain of this specie whose genome has been determined. The strain is the prototype of bacteria producing and secreting a 2-substituted (1,3)-D-β-glucan. It was isolated from a ropy cider from the Basque Country (Spain). It belongs to the culture collection of the Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry (University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, San Sebastián, Spain).
