De novo transcriptome assembly and annotation for gene discovery in Corylus species

Hazelnut is important tree in its nut crops and woody oil plants. It has high economic and nutritional value. Corylus avellana L. and Corylus colurna L. are the most common hazelnut species in Europe. C. avellana L. (Tombul hazelnut) is the most widespread hazelnut species in Turkey, while C. colurna L. is grown naturally in Anatolia, is one of the significant hazelnut species in Turkey. We thus, sequenced the transcriptomes of these two Corylus species and utilized the data for gene discovery and gene expression profiling.
