There is a limited understanding of the physiological and mechanical stress associated with real-world 40-km cycling time trial (TT) performances. No previous research has investigated the bias and limits of agreement (LoA) between laboratory- and field-derived parameters (e.g., critical power, W’, and peak power) obtained from a 3-minute all-out cycling test, and whether these parameters are informative of performances during a TT. Furthermore, no previous research has monitored the continuous power output or changes in core temperature and heart rate during such a TT.
