Mexico: number of people with health insurance by type 2020

In 2020, approximately 47 million people in Mexico had access to the public health insurance system through Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). It reached more than 37 percent of the Mexican population that year. The type of health insurance with the second highest number of affiliates was provided by the Instituto de Salud para el Bienestar, which reached 32.8 million people in that same year. Around 20 million people were estimated to lack access to health services in Mexico in 2018.
