Epidemiology of human health outcomes related to air pollution in Brazil: a systematic review

This article reviews and discusses some aspects of the epidemiological research situation on human health outcomes related to air pollution in Brazil. It is a systematic review of studies on the effects of polluted air exposure on human health. The context and methodological quality of the full texts were analyzed. The review identified 432 studies on the theme, 56 of which met the inclusion criteria. Besides demonstrating a scenario of epidemiological research guided by the cause-effect relationship, the results point to the need for revision of environmental parameters and expose challenges and contributions to epidemiological research in environmental health.
