Eastern Mediterranean Regional Climate Projections (8km, 1981-2070, COSMO-CLM RCP4.5)

The dataset named “Eastern Mediterranean Regional Climate Projections (8km, 1981-2070, COSMO-CLM RCP4.5)“ contains climate projections over the Eastern Mediterranean area, centered over Israel. The COSMO-CLM regional climate model (Rockel et al, 2008) was used to obtain a high-resolution simulation “Eastern Mediterranean Climate Projections (8km, 1981-2070, COSMO-CLM RCP4.5)” at about 8 km grid spacing and 6-hourly temporal resolution, covering a limited domain (30.1°E – 39.4°E, 26.1°N – 35.4°N). The climate projections span from 1981-2070 under the RCP4.5 IPCC scenario, which assumes greenhouse gas concentrations peak around 2040 before declining (Moss et al, 2010). The “Climate projections over Eastern Mediterranean 8km” was obtained by dynamically downscale an existing simulation over the CORDEX-MENA domain (Giorgi et al, 2009, Bucchignani et al, 2016), at approximately 31 km grid spacing, respectively driven by the global climate model CMCC-CM (Scoccimarro et al, 2011). The simulation, based on a third-order Runge-Kutta scheme for time integration, with the atmospheric model comprising 40 vertical levels and seven soil levels, employing an optimized configuration developed through extensive sensitivity analyses.
